How do I begin using youlīvenow?

Go to youlīvenow.com. You are welcome to test you webcam connectivity in the youlīvenow lobby before starting or joining your session. To see your video streaming Click "Send Audio/Video" within video windows. If you are beginning a new session, click on start.  If you are joining a session as a guest, click on join.

Do I need to download any software?

No – youlīvenow requires no software download – you simply access the service through a web-link.

Can Mac users go youlīvenow?

Yes!  Go to ‘My Shows’ to change the default in the iSight program by creating a new broadcast.  Click ‘GoLive’ just as you would do for your own videos, then click ‘Advanced Settings’ in the pop-up box.  Inside the drop down list titled ‘Video Settings’, choose ‘USB Video Class Video’…or… hold down ‘CTRL’ and click. Then click ‘Settings’, the webcam, and finally ‘USB Video Class Video’.

Web Cam/Video

Do I need high speed Internet to use this service?

Yes - You will need a high speed Internet connection to successfully host or participate in a session (either LAN, WIFI, or Cellular). A minimum of 320Kbps is required. 400 Kbps is recommended.

Which webcam should I use?

The youlīvenow service is designed to detect the presence of a camera as a device on your computer. If you have properly installed your camera, youlīvenow will detect and control the signal from there.  In other words – no specific webcam is required or recommended.

Do I need an expensive camera?

No, any web camera will work if properly installed.  youlīvenow works equally well with inexpensive webcams as it will with expensive video cameras.

How can I add more color to my image?

Adjust the light in your location so that it is evenly distributed both front and back to increase the color quality.

What does ‘Allow’ mean?

You are almost there!  Click on ‘Allow’ to permit your camera to open. As a session manager you have the ability to allow in your guest.

How do I turn off my camera without leaving a session?

Click on your streaming window.  A camera icon will appear.  Click on it, a diagonal ‘No’ line will appear.  Your image will be frozen until you reverse the process.

I’ve done everything and I still can’t get my camera to work?

Chances are you have opened the software that you installed with the web cam and it is conflicting with the service.  Simply close your webcam or video software.  Now that all software is closed, go back to your youlīvenow session screen and click on allow.  youlīvenow should then detect your webcam or video signal.

Right click anywhere in your screen and a pop–up menu will appear. Click on ‘Settings’. Click on camera icon in next menu.  If there is no camera connected, you will see that message. This indicates that you need to first make sure your computer recognizes your camera as a device.  If the camera is connected, select the correct camera type.

If you are still experiencing an issue you may have a security system in addition to the one that comes with your PC or Mac.  Click on the icon for your private security system and disable the ‘Firewall’.  Reopen www.youlīvenow.com

Volume Adjustment

What if I my volume doesn’t work or what if I can’t hear anything?

Make certain that your two prong headset jacks are inserted into your PC or laptop.  Then adjust the volume for your computer. If this is correct, right click anywhere in your youlīvenow screen. Menu will appear. Click on “Settings” and then on microphone icon in next menu. If the microphone is connected, select the right microphone. Use volume slider to adjust the level.

Microphone

Do I need a 2 jack PC headset or can I use ear buds?

You can use ear buds as long as your PC mic or attached mic is strong enough to detect your voice clearly.

Can I use the mic on my PC instead of a headset?

You can participate in a session without a headset as long as you have isolated any background noise and have a strong Internet connection. It is recommended that you use a quality PC microphone to increase your signal in larger spaces.

How do I turn off my sound and just listen?

Click on your streaming window.  A microphone icon will appear.  Click on it, a diagonal ‘No’ line will appear.  When you want to talk, just reverse the process.

Headset

Which headset do you recommend?

The best headset for the service is a PC headset that has a separate jack for mic and headphones.  These two prongs plug into the mic and headphone connection on your PC or laptop.
